Input Devices

    Feeding information into computer or the information provided to the computer is known as Input. The set of devices which are helps to provide input to the computer is called Input unit/Input devices. Ex: Keyboard, Mouse, Joystick, Scanner, Microphone, Touchpad, Digital Camera etc...

Most common used Input devices are Keyboard and Mouse.

Keyboard 

Keyboard is an input device. Keyboard is used to enter data into computer.

Standard Type Writer keys: A-Z, Standard type writer keys are also called Alpha/Alphabetical keys.

Numeric Keypad: 0-9, we use numeric keypad to type data which are in the form of number.

Functions keys: Function keys are labeled as F1, F2 to F12. We can see these keys at the top of the keyboard. We use these function keys as a Shortcut key in various programs.

Special purpose keys: 

Combination keys: We cannot use these keys independently we combine combination keys with another key. 

Combination keys are: Alter, Control & Shift for example: Alt+F4, Control+S, Shift+A

Toggle keys: These keys are used to switch in two different functions. We use ‘on’ and ‘off’ to switching to different function. For example, if we want to type sentence with capital letters we on the caps lock keys. If we want to use numeric keypad we will on the Num lock key.

Toggle Keys are: Caps Lock, Num lock & Scroll lock.

Navigation keys: We use navigation keys to go up down right left and to we use navigation keys to move around the document, data sheet, presentations or web pages. Arrow keys also comes under in navigation keys. 

Navigation keys are: Home, End, Page Up, Page Down, Insert, Delete & Arrow keys (⬇⬆➡⬅)

Mouse🖰

Mouse is an input device. We called Mouse in a Pointing Device. Mouse controls the position of the cursor on a computer screen. Mouse has 3 buttons; Right click, Left Click and scroll bar. We Use Right click to select extra options, and left for selecting options, opening files, click for Single double and triple click.

Types of mice

There are 3 types of mouse

  1. Mechanical Mouse
  2. Optical Mouse
  3. Wireless Mouse

1) Mechanical Mouse: Mechanical mouse contain track ball at the bottom, it is called as track ball. In these type of mouse the pointer controlled by the help of track ball.

2 ) Optical Mouse: It is also called Laser mouse. This mouse has a laser light at the bottom. This pointer is controlled with the help of laser light.

3) Wireless Mouse: These type of mouse looks like Optical mouse only. This mouse has no wire. And these type of mouse runs on Battery

Joystick🕹

Joystick is an Input device. It is used to play games on computer. There are different types of Joysticks available in market. Buyer choose their joystick according to their requirements.

Microphone🎤

Mic or Microphone is an Input devices. It takes Voice Input. A microphone converts sound into a small electric current.

Scanner

Scanner Is an Input device. Scanner is used to take photo or image into computer.

Types of Scanner

1.       Flatbed Scanner
2.       Fortable Scanner
3.       OCR (Optical Character reorganization)
4.       OMR (Optical Mark reorganization)
5.       MICR (Magnetic Ink Character reorganization)

1) Flatbed Scanner:

Flatbed Scanner are used to scan Document or photos.

2) Fortable scanner:

To scan, you have to place the photo down and rotate the scanner according to the Image.

3) OCR (Optical Character reorganization)

OCR is use to Scan the price of Item.

4) OMR (Optical Mark reorganization)

OMR Scanner is used to scan the Marks of OMR sheet.

5) MICR (Magnetic Ink Character reorganization)

MICR scanner is used to read information on checks or demand drafts.

Output Devices

    After the completion of process, we get the results in the form of Output. And the set used to give the output are called ‘Output Unit’. Output devices are; Monitor, Printers, Headphones, Speakers, Projectors etc.

Monitor💻

Monitor is an output device. The output of the Monitor is called soft copy. The most important feature of the monitor is its quality which is also known as the resolution of the monitor.

The output of the monitor is made up of dots, each dot is called pixel. The distance between two pixels are called dot pitch.

Types of Monitor

  1. CRT Monitor
  2. LCD Monitor
  3. LED Monitor

CRT Monitor: Cathode Ray Tube

  •  It is heavy in weight
  • More Power consumption
  • Require more space.

LCD Monitor: Liquid Crystal Display

  • Light Weight
  • Less Power consumption
  • Require less space

LED Monitor: Light Emitting Diode

LED Monitor looks like LCD but these are more flat than LED.

Printers🖨

Printer is an output Device. The output of the Printer is always called Hard Copy. The resolution of the printer is measured in DPI (Dot per Inch)

Types of Printers:

Laser Printer: Laser Printer uses the same technology as a photocopier in that it does not contain toner but contain powder toner.

Inkjet Printer: Inkjet printer are the most widely used printers that print on paper at high speed. In these types of printer Ink is used.

Dot Matrix Printer

These prints are prints through a small pin on the printer head. It uses a ribbon for ink like a typewriter machine. The printer makes a lot of noise.

Thermal Printer:

Direct sensitive paper means these types of printers are used to print on heat sensitive paper, it does not contain Ink, and the paper is pressed again to produce the print.

Plotters:

Plotters are Output devices. These are special purpose printer used to print architectural maps or Engineering drawing of the Engineers.

Speaker 🔊

Speaker is an Output devices. It provides the Audio output.

Headphones 🎧

Headphones are the output devices. It is also Audio output.

What is computer

Computer Computer COMPUTER 🖥️ ️ Computer is an electronic device, which accept Input, Process on it and Display the Output.   INPUT  ➡️  PROCESS  ➡️  ️OUTPUT. We may also define computer by many ways:  Computer is an Electronic machine/device which can stores the large amount of Data.  Computer is an electronic device which converts raw data into useful information.
